The
Foundation helps hundreds
of men, women and children
who, as a result of their
hardship and sufferings,
due to their state of mental
health and social maladjustment,
are excluded from the normal
contexts of life and frequently
fall victim to physical and/or
psychological acts of violence.
These
people are the direct recipients
of the aid provided for the
construction of houses, work
training, the start-up and
development of social businesses
for them to work in and local
development. In a broader
sense they are also the beneficiaries
of the initiatives that aim
to foster the creation of
a cultural, health, social
and economic, relational
and affective context capable
of supporting them along
their journey towards rehabilitation
and reintegration into their
original towns and villages.
We
can also identify as indirect
beneficiaries the rehabilitated
people’s families as
well as their native towns
and villages. The experience
acquired in the Ivory Coast
and in Benin shows in fact
how a person who, after a
period of care and rehabilitation,
returns to the village he
or she had been thrown out
of or in which he/she had
been secured to a tree trunk,
represents a real opportunity
for the whole community to
re-establish unity and rebuild
relations.
