The
Hospital Saint
Camille de Lellis
in Bouake is a
non- profit hospital
which is part of
the Association
Saint Camille de
Lellis .The Hospital
opened their doors
to the public of
Bouake in 1998.
Over
the past five years
since the national
crisis began, the
entire north of
the country, including
Bouake has been
cut off from all
basic health care
services.
The
Saint Camille Hospital
and their centres
for mental illness
in Bouake, Korogo,
and Bondokou have
been the reference
points of basic
health, water,
shelter and nutritional
needs for over
80,000 people.
The
Hospital, with
their actively
trained staff and
this marginalized
population, has
recently begun
HIV treatment.
It
is estimated that
over 50% of more
than 70,000 children
living with HIV/AIDS
in the Ivory Coast
are in the northern
region. There are
very few in the
north that are
currently providing
comprehensive HIV
services.
The
Hospital covers
a surface of 10,125
square meters with
a possibility of
further construction.
In Fact, in 2006,
construction was
started for a new
wing of the Hospital
which will include
a surgery unit,
radiology / ultrasound
unit.
This
Day Hospital is
composed of: consultation
studios in general
medicine, an optician
clinic for glasses
where lenses are
actually cut for
individual patients
and optical operations.
There is also a
dentist’s
studio. For general
medicine there
is a laboratory
and a pharmacy.
