HIV/AIDS

In 2006, thanks to a generous contribution from an institutional donor, the Saint Camille Hospital inaugurated a new unit for the early diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS which quickly became a benchmark for those seeking assistance throughout the region. The St. Camille Foundation through the Hospital in Bouaké is partner of the Ivorian Government for the implementation of the HIV/AIDS pediatric program supported by UNITAID. Within this framework, the Foundation has been authorized by the National anti HIV/AIDS Program to provide antiretroviral treatment and diagnostic services which are offered free of charge to eligible patients.

Since 2008, the Hospital is equipped with a team of peer educators to conduct HIV/AIDS sensitization and testing campaigns in the rural areas of Bouaké. In the first ten months of activities, the team engaged approximately seven thousand persons in their programs.

In March 2009 the Foundation inaugurated within the premises of the St. Camille Hospital a one floor building named the Meeting Point of Bouaké. This covered structure can host approximately one hundred persons and was built to provide to the local population a gathering space of communitarian aggregation to discuss subjects related to HIV/AIDS.

The efforts undertaken by the St. Camille Hospital in the fight against HIV/AIDS have been recognized and appreciated by national health authorities as well as by international organizations as on the occasion of the visits of Ms. Pamela Barns, President of EGPAF; Mr. Mark Dybul, US-PEPFAR Global AIDS Coordinator and Mr. Michael Leavitt, US Secretary of Health.
